‘Sociocracy’ a better way of organising communities and business

Tony HesterTony Hester talks on:  ‘Dynamic Governance’ also known as ‘Sociocracy’ a better way of organising communities and business”,  4.30 – 5.30 pm Saturday 27 June 2015 at the Narara Ecovillage Visitor Centre.

How does a co-operative of 130 people govern itself and make decisions?

The Narara Ecovillage community has chosen Dynamic Governance / Sociocracy as the basis for the way it conducts its business and decision making. This is a governance system based on consent, which sits mid way between typical democracy (where 51% is enough for a decision) and consensus (which requires 100% agreement for a decision). This is achieved by finding a common ground that everyone can live with.

All members of the village are encouraged to attend a “Taste of Sociocracy” evening that founder Lyndall Parris offers regularly. Last month a 2-day workshop was held at the Ecovillage for anyone interested in learning Sociocracy, conducted by Gina Price of the Sociocracy Consulting Group (SCG).

Tony is the Site Manager of the Narara Ecovillage, a Board member of the Central Coast Rudolf Steiner School, a Rural Fire Service volunteer, a surf life saver, a former member in the Australian Army Reserve (ex Commando and intelligence operative), and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.  He is also a member of the Sociocracy Southern Hemisphere Community of Practice and assistant trainer with the SCG.

The talk is free for Members of the Narara Eco Living Network and the Narara Ecovillage Co-operative, and for anyone who has registered to attend the Open Day. For others the cost is $10 per person or $20 per family payable at the door.
