Surveyors and Ecovillages

January 2017 Network (NELN) Event.

January, Sunday 22, 1.30 pm. at the Narara Ecovillage Visitor Centre.

“Surveyors, Ecovillages and New Trends in Residential Living”.

Why is the Surveyor General interested in ecovillages? Come and find out!

Steve Bishop, Registered Surveyor with Chase Burke and Harvey Surveyors, will report on his study tour of 3 international ecovillages. Steve’s study was funded by a grant from the Office of the Surveyor General.

Steve said: “ The main purpose of the study was to investigate any novel approaches to residential living being implemented by ecovillages that could be applied to more “traditional” or “mainstream” development. Although, the practices of sustainable communities could be construed as being more traditional in their own right … and perhaps even becoming more mainstream these days”.

The 3 ecovillages that Steve visited were Ithaca in New York State, Findhorn in Scotland and Torri Superiore in Italy.

Steve manages the Sydney office of Chase Burke and Harvey Surveyors (CBH). CBH were chosen to be the surveyors for the Narara Ecovilage Project. He started work with CBH in 1994 as an undergraduate. He became a partner in 2008. He lives on the Central Coast.

Steve’s talk will follow an Open Day tour and presentation on the Narara Ecovillage project, from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This includes morning tea. If you are combining the Open Day morning with the afternoon talk, please bring your own lunch. We have not yet established catering services for visitors- but watch this space!
