More about windows.

Windows can be the weak point in managing energy and temperature.

Windows can be very expensive

  • We want or windows to do a lot for us:
  • Let in and manage external light
  • Block summer heat, let in winter heat, keep in internal heat
  • Keep out insects and rats and birds
  • provide security, keep out burglars
  • Allow ventilation
  • Repel bushfire and ash
  • Provide some privacy

Options include:

  • Double and triple glazing
  • External shutters, awnings and blinds
  • Internal curtains, shutters, awnings and blinds
  • Different types of glass

Issues include:

  • ease of cleaning and maintenance
  • emergency exits
