Windows can be the weak point in managing energy and temperature.
Windows can be very expensive
- We want or windows to do a lot for us:
- Let in and manage external light
- Block summer heat, let in winter heat, keep in internal heat
- Keep out insects and rats and birds
- provide security, keep out burglars
- Allow ventilation
- Repel bushfire and ash
- Provide some privacy
Options include:
- Double and triple glazing
- External shutters, awnings and blinds
- Internal curtains, shutters, awnings and blinds
- Different types of glass
Issues include:
- ease of cleaning and maintenance
- emergency exits
